Ronald A. Busse - Writing ~ Editing ~ Marketing-to-Publishers
To give you an idea of who you'll be working with...

I'm originally from Long Island, New York, where I grew up. After spending a decade in the scenic Hudson Valley, I ventured out to Denver, Colorado in April 2013, where I now happily reside.

I've always practiced and believed that the best way to learn is by doing. Through decades of experience I've acquired and developed much of my writing, editing, proofreading, and manuscript agent skills. I'm constantly learning, improving, and expanding my knowledge - getting better at what I do best while developing new skills along the way.

Education
In 2013, I passed the following Elance.com tests. (These tests are designed for professional writers, editors, and proofreaders at the intermediate and advanced skill levels):

  • U.S. English Chicago Style Editing Skills Test
  • English Spelling Test (U.S. Version)
  • U.S. English Punctuation and Mechanics Test
  • U.S. English Proofreading Skills Test (Chicago)
  • U.S. English Grammar Test

*Also see below for further education.

Experience & Publishing Credits
I edited a memoir titled Nonno, Tell Us a Story by new author Pietrantonio Lombardi. It was a particularly challenging project, as the text included Italian words and phrases, as well as Italian dialect from a small village in Italy.

I served as Manuscript Agent - transcribing, proofreading, editing, and overseeing all book production details - for author Roland Roberge's debut poetry book Cannibals (available on amazon.com). Do click on Publishing Services for details about my Manuscript Agent service.

I'm the author of over 110 nonfiction articles published in these New York regional newspapers and magazines: Massapequa Post, Babylon Beacon, Amityville Record, Smithtown Messenger, and Good Times. To read writing samples, click here: Freelance Portfolio.

I worked as a proofreader and editor at Good Times magazine while writing dozens of album reviews for the bi-weekly publication. I also wrote concert reviews and conducted band interviews. Samples of each are included in my Freelance Portfolio.

I've had correspondence published in Rolling Stone magazine and several snippets published in the Poughkeepsie Journal.

I've had numerous poems in the genres of science fiction, children's and Christmas poetry, published in magazines and anthologies.

In 1997, I wrote and self-published a poetry book, Into The Retrospectrum. My Poetry Portfolio offers excerpts from it, as well as more recent works.

Growing Up: Education & Experience
As long as I can remember, writing has been coursing through my veins. Although I have an Associate Degree in Business Administration, English was always my best (and favorite) subject throughout school. Here is a  recollection of some of my earliest written works (and a few memories) from my school days:

3rd Grade: I would speed through in-class assignments - just so I could go grab my favorite poetry book from a side shelf and read until the rest of the class finished. At this age I wrote my first poem and song about my dog, Scuffy; and I still play it, too.

4th Grade: For an assigned writing project I wrote Chewy Bubble Gum, a collection of poems, each about a specific color.

6th Grade: I was chosen to take part in a creative writing class, separate from my regular classes.

7th Grade: I wrote articles for my junior high school’s newspaper The Pioneer.

8th Grade: I became a contributing Assistant Editor for The Pioneer.

High School: I continued to receive high English marks. A class called Contemporary Problems allowed me the freedom to further express my creative writing self. Though I didn't pursue more editorial work - not yet anyway - I had this uncontrollable urge to correct any spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors I spotted in anything that I read.

Meanwhile I wrote poetry for The Chief  (Massapequa High School's newspaper) while writing more poems and songs on my own. In my senior year I took a journalism class that helped wet the ink rollers for future writing, editing, and proofreading endeavors.
